The Death of HD-DVD
Well, it’s official, Blu takes the Gold.
Toshiba Officially Confirms Death of HD-DVD
Toshiba said on Tuesday it would stop promoting its HD DVD format for the next-generation DVD after losing the support of key studios and retailers to the Blu-ray technology backed by Sony.
The decision ends a war between rival consortiums led by Toshiba and Sony vying to set the standard for high-definition movies on DVDs. Toshiba said it would begin to reduce shipments of HD DVD players and recorders and aim to end the business by the end of next month. The Blu-ray win means consumers no longer have to choose between rival incompatible formats and run the risk of being stuck with a 21st century equivalent of Betamax — Sony’s videotape technology that lost out to VHS in the 1980s.
Having one format should also help accelerate the shift to the new technology in the $24 billion home DVD market as shoppers faced with rival machines that played only one type of disc or the other, have previously held back.
Of course i saw it coming and cringed when Warner made the switch, but it was a great run while it lasted. A bunch of blogs were asking what early adopters like myself would do now that HD-DVD is being dumped, and my only response:
Watch my movies, and keep buying all the HD titles I can for what are now insanely cheap prices.
Amazon, Deep Discount and every other store will is try to liquidate titles, so why not spend 1/3 to 1/4 the price then re-buying them again on Blu. Not to mention my HD-A20 player is the best up-converter to 1080 that I own, so eventually we’ll break down and buy the PS3. *sigh* At least sony finally takes the crown for a win since they lost with Beta back in the day, I guess I can give them that.
I’m Going to China
Don’t worry mom, I didn’t say “moving”, rather going in May with Val’s mom on a 2 week tour/trip! I just bought my tickets.
You probably remember my rants and such about how I feel when it comes to photography and how I need to step it up, well, heres one of those steps I’m ready to jump on. I leave May 5th for Beijing, then for two weeks will meander through the country and head back from Shanghai. I’m really excited, and damn ready for the challenge, not to mention some interesting culture shock and probably the best Sushi I’ve ever had.
Anthony I know you want to kill me, but Val’s mom said she’ll keep an eye out for a girlfriend for you too.
Danny from American Idol
Ok so me an Val were watching TV the other night and we caught the end of American Idol.. you tell me, doesn’t this Danny guy remind you of someone?
Jessica Alba’s brother? it has to be.. it’s really freaking me out.
Indian Superman
I don’t know how I missed this before, be warned, it’s painful to watch. I love that she is wearing a spiderman costume tho. Classic.
sidenote: I have my RSS feed aggregating links daily now, looks like it went a bit back in history on some old stuff, so if you’ve got me on RSS, you may see a bunch of old stuff.
