Amazon Launches WebStore

Well, I have to say that it’s not always something im excited to give a thumbs up about when I wake up and find that one of the biggest retailers for online merchandise just launched a cost-efficient and rock solid platform for starting an ecommerce store in 5 minutes. Makes my job a bit tougher, and I like challenges, but from an ego standpoint, I fear this just a bit.

Amazon WebStoreFor quite a while I’ve been in the business of building ecommerce sites. It’s really an ever-changing deal since people demand more, better integration with features they dont use, new ways to pay for stuff they dont need and of course, to make sales easy. By watching the screencast on this system, I really dont think they could have made it easier. The best part about the whole deal here is that you dont need to have a merchant account to receive your money you make, which means you really can have a live store running in about 5 minutes powered by amazon. You can also have multiple stores right in the same account, manage them all from one interface, and anyone with an amazon account can login and pay with all their pre-saved information.

Hat tip to you guys, actually I’m surprised it took this long to get off the ground, but like anything Amazon does, I know it will be a success. Now I’m curious to see how the recently discovered Magento partner pricing scales will compare to this option.
