Helping to Give Back a Little
Strange evening for me tonight. After all the meetings, phone calls, madness with this freelance project from hell and all, I decided to take the night off, browse a few photos and watch some TV. When I got home me and val were watching The Simpsons eating dinner and let American Idol roll on since the remote was out of the-couch-stretch. Tonight was a special event and really well done. They called it Idol Gives Back. Fox teamed up with sponsors, celebrities, stars, foundations and even took a few trips to poverty-stricken parts of the world to have a first-hand look at what they were about to present. I don’t quite know what part got to me, but it did.
As much as I feel this show isn’t only rigged and a bunch of politics for ratings and sponsorship increases, the message they gave tonight was much more then “Save the Children”, it was pretty damn sincere. For a long time I’ve just barley gotten by because of all the expensive habbits I tend to give myself. Photography, Music, Computers.. and the occasional splurge on clothes a few times a year. I’ve wanted to give back from time to time, but typically when it sounds like a good idea, before I hit submit, I check my online banking to count the overdrafts and then usually turn the monitor off and grab a beer. heh. I’m happy to say that those days are finally behind me.
Recently I’ve made some hard choices that have been for the best. All of which terrified me in their own rite, but finally paying off and I couldn’t be happier. I donated a few hundred dollars, I figure it was the least I could do for what fortune I’ve been blessed with. I also added that sweet little banner in the top corner, yah I know that was so 2005, but at least it can chill there till I re-design this site.
