Carol Burnett not amused by ‘Family Guy’

LOS ANGELES, California (Hollywood Reporter) — Fox says Carol Burnett can’t take a joke.

The actress says Fox and its “Family Guy” show paid her back for refusing access to her music and other copyrighted materials by lampooning her in an episode of the animated TV comedy, and now she wants them to pay for the indignity.

In a suit filed last week in U.S. District Court in Los Angeles, Burnett and her Whacko production company seek more than $2 million for alleged copyright infringement and other claims.

In July 2005, “Family Guy” producers were refused permission to use Burnett’s well-known theme music from her long-running former CBS TV show in an episode of the animated series titled “Peterotica,” according to the suit. That’s when they decided to cook up some paybacks, it claims.

“Family Guy” creator Seth MacFarlane was not named as a defendant in the suit. Fox, which produces the show and airs it over its broadcast network, issued a statement indicating “surprise” over the legal action.

” ‘Family Guy,’ like the ‘Carol Burnett Show,’ is famous for its pop culture parodies and satirical jabs at celebrities,” Fox said. “We are surprised that Ms. Burnett, who has made a career of spoofing others on television, would go so far as to sue ‘Family Guy’ for a simple bit of comedy.”

It bothers me that any-one in Hollywood would take offense to what Family Guy does on a normal basis. I feel that if you make it your job to be in the public spotlight you deserve whatever the public can ridicule and throw back in your face. Especially when you’re a comedian. No one thinks she’s a horrible person because of what Quagmire said in character, in fact after that scene I remember thinking back to when I used to watch the show… people bug me.

This is seriously something I need in the mornings..

Pretty brilliant idea for the non morning person I am.. or if could just get to bed before 1am that would probably help.

I’ve been putting off the upgrade for a while now, don’t really know why, I guess just lazy factor teamed with the assumption all would go to hell after the core modifications I did to a few files, but luckily I remembered most everything and as far as I can see, nothing is broke.

I’m in the process of trying to re-design, let’s hope sooner then later. Going to bring back the Long Beach Cam, hopefully add a few more fun things I’ve been toying with and a better integration with my new photo site.

I’ve felt a fairly low level of creativity over the past week from being a codemonkey on this project, but in that time due to my lack of enthusiasm to post, I’ve been collecting some links that double as my search-able bookmarking tool. aka. this site. Sometimes I debate the idea of how much it was worth taking freelance projects again. Working a 9 hour day then sitting in front of the glowing box programming till 1am isn’t always the best way to spend an evening (or week or month), especially now that I get to see my girl every night when I get home. But I do have to appreciate all that extra cash at the end of the month that I would have spent clicking through flickr or sitting on my ass killing time for.

Like this current project I’m working on. I literally built an algorithm for this project. Don’t ask me how, I’m still a bit lost on the time between where I said I knew how to do it and the time it took to realize I hadn’t a clue where to start *chuckle*, but hey that’s the fun in it. What I love is how we launch the site this friday and today they tell me the logic needs to change. Not like I’ve invested 25+ hours into this 1100 line code file (no comments yet) or anything. This is why God invented overtime. At an increased rate. With no guarantee of validity due to last minute changes.

Did I mention I love the creative copyright under pressure?

It’s already been a year since Ze started the show, amazing how fast that seemed to have went. Funny how there’s days I can’t think of a thing to post on this little blog, let alone come up with a video podcast almost daily. It was a treat to meet him at Flash Forward a few years back, the man is mental, and we love him for it. The internet world awaits his next move now, talk about track position.
