Photos From Europe
So I figure while I’m hot on the photo news, I can pass on the link to my fav’s from the Trip Val and I took earlier this year. Talk about a wonderful vacation too. I’d been anxious to go back to Europe since the day I got back in 2003 and what better way then to be with the one you love and able to take time to enjoy the sights and run at your own pace.
Gave myself a fun challenge to shoot the whole trip on a 35mm. Besides some unfortunate light leak that ruined a good 1/5 of my 22+ rolls, it was great. All of these were taken with a Minolta using a 50mm 1.4f. All Fuji Film, Reala 400ASA (before they discontinued it) and Press/Superia 400
Here’s a few, and the full gallery is right here.
I’m still going though on flickr and adding tags/descriptions to all of them, talk about a chore. Love to hear any comments you have.
I’m Published!
Well, I kept this sort-of under wraps for a while to see if it would actually happen or not, but it did! I got my first photo published, and in the New Yorker at that! The September 25th issue towards the middle of the mag in the featured ads section. I shot this image with my oldschool camera on a trip to Palm Sprins, CA sometime in 2004. I remember it was just past sunset and this was an attempt to play wtih long exposure on a golf course.
The guy from Condé Nast Publications found me on Flickr and asked me about my photo, I told him I would be completley delighted to have the photo used for an editorial and whats better, he gave me photo credits! I couldn’t be happier today. It’s gorgeous outside, Val passed her extremley difficult financial exam (Series Seven) and I got my first shot to hang on my wall, the way it’s meant to be, in a publication!

Normally I would say go pick it up, but don’t worry, everyone I know is getting a copy as a stocking stuffer anyhow! *chuckle*
UPDATE: Thanks Jenny for the shout-out!

Parallel Display LCDs

Woah, now talk about an applaud in technology, what a great idea. Nothing like having a 1LCD/Dual Mirror setup at home or the office right?
Sharp engineers have managed to control the angle of visibility using the ol’ parallax barrier used in 3D displays. The resulting panel is perfect for those times when you need to get some work done on the computer but your toddler is clamoring to watch the latest download of CSI. Or mount the LCD in the car allowing you to navigate GPS maps while the family chills with a film… or freakin’ puppies and plants, whatever just as long as they shut the hell up. No idea where or when these might be available, Sharp’s apparently just being a little boastful about their accomplishment. Proud you should be Sharp, now come, we’ve got a cookie for ya.
Impressive stuff from Sharp, who thought of this?
