PayPal has launched its mobile payment platform, called, of course, PayPal Mobile. Oliver Starr at MobileCrunch had the scoop and was also slashdotted an hour ago.

This spells trouble for existing mobile payment provider TextPayMe. PayPal’s solution is fully baked, easy to use, and has some great features that take this beyond a way to text your friends money.

To use the service, click here and sign in (you must have or create a PayPal account to view this). You need to register a phone and create a PIN. PayPal uses an automated system to call you on the phone and verify the PIN, and the phone is then usable.

To send a person to person payment, you either text the payment amount and recipient’s phone number to PayPal, or call a toll free number and follow the directions.

PayPal Mobile can also be used to pay for stuff as well. It’s called Text to Buy:

Anytime you see Text to Buy next to something you want to buy—on a poster, in a magazine, at an event—you can securely order the item by text message. Use your phone to buy items like CDs, DVDs, books, electronics, accessories and much more.

To use it, you text PayPal the item number, and they call you back to confirm the purchase. Done.

I’ve confirmed that there are no additional charges for using PayPal Mobile. If you have a business or premium account, normal fees to receive money apply. And, of course, most mobile carriers charge for text messages.

Actaully not all that bad of an idea. I think it makes it easier when your out and one person owes the other some cash, you just slam it over their way with a text message. Of course the annoyance is still there when it comes to the fees, but still somehow less painfull then the $2 flat ATM fee.

Another classic Jackass moment. These guys never stop man, don’t know if this is old or new but I don’t care, it’s classic.

BTW: Justin Timberlake != Rambo, I don’t care how bad you are at casting, this is a bad idea.

This guy is too good. Hah, when it comes to the day when you need a personal coach for a social-sell-out site, thats the day you know you’re a geek. Personally I knew this about myself yeaaaars ago, but luckily it didn’t come to this. When I found myself seeing how I could re-write everything to be emulated in GWBASIC for the fun of it, I knew it was too-late. Hell, acceptance is the first step right?

This has to be one of the best things I’ve seen all month, some guys climbed up to the top of this Bald Eagle’s nest and put a cam + encoder facing the egg. How amazing is this? You have to check it out.

Makes me remember watching them fly overhead when I was on my 65mi Canoe Trip up north with adam, ahh yea, the good times.

So today’s Lazy Sunday is most def. in effect. Had a great time with Val & mom today at the swap-meet in costa mesa (birds-eye), didn’t quite pickup anything but the sticky-buns were out of control and the coffee was pretty good. Found one photographer there selling his stuff but everytime we walked by the guy wasn’t there. He had some great work so I was bummed I didn’t get to talk to him or at least get a portfolio website. In any case, no rain luckily, it got close a few times. But as alwasy, I documented the trip, you can check out some pics on my flickr account.
