Chevron 2.0

Apperently Chevron is going Redux. I somehow missed it in wired when they ran the ad for willyoujoinus.com, some PR site. But when you look at the bottom right corner there be the new logo, shiny and all pretty.

Chevrom on the Redesign

Personally I like it, lil bit sleeker and sexy, but wow, the font change. We got shadows, we got some gradient, and with a few lines the classic namesake turns into a socially aware medallion. I feel like Lance Armstrong will be racing for them now and the’re will be a chevron ribbon to wear symbolizing the death of the old brand. heh, all in a few vectors at that. Talk about a big step for an oil company. Still I have to say ther’re something about the old logo that I like better. Maybe it’s the fact that it better resembles the company and what the symbol actually is.. a freaking chevron. Instead now I have to look at a glowing ribbon to drive past when I don’t want to pay $2.50 for a damn gallon of gas. I say stick with what works or be ready for consequences and nasty words from the shareholders. Obviously since I own no part of the company other then putting the ceo’s first kid through college with the amount of driving i pulled for the last 5 years, I have no voice in the matter, but hey, I’m all for a fun new look for them, I choose Mobil anywho

Bachelor: Paris

Bachelor ParisAite, I’m not one to watch this show. I admin I watches some of the very first one they had because I really liked the editing. They have this distinctly cool fade + saturation blur thing goin’ on and I thought it was a sweet effect. In fact that inspired a little art direction for a splash page we did at work. Tim, you’re the man at flash with the blur effects bro.

Anyhow, I was watching my 24 and was flippin around after. Saw there was like 20 minutes left so flipped over to check out the chicks and at least got a couple sweet Paris shots from the cut scenes. This guy know’s how to pick em, yo. Check out the babes. Although I gotta say, he had his speach for the one he dumped so effin rehearsed, it was insane. And if the 5 second padded “buttt” wasn’t a give-away, he had the nerve to keep talking after. She did pretty well taking it at first but lost it like no other in the car. First of all I don’t know how she could breathe in that tight dress, but wow, I actually felt bad for the girl, you could tell she was really into this guy.

Reality shows (especially ones that run this long and is the same crap over and over) are hard to judge. Some get better with age - like Beauty & The Geek, and other like, Survivor, need to just be bitch-slapped to UPN. In any case I think the chick he dumped (the one on his right) was way hotter, but of course, it’s all about love. That’s why they all sold their soul to ABC. *shrug*

Sadily, Three of Three

So the sad, it’s true, it does happen in threes, and Dennis Weaver is the third.

Weaver Dies

Weaver died Friday from complications of cancer at his home in Ridgway, in southwestern Colorado, his publicist, Julian Myers, announced Monday.

“He was a wonderful man and a fine actor, and we will all miss him,” said Burt Reynolds, who appeared with Weaver in “Gunsmoke” in the early 1960s.

Weaver and actor James Arness were close friends since their 1955 screen test for “Gunsmoke.”

“It is a very sad time and a big loss for me personally,” Arness said. “He provided comic relief but was also a real person doing things that were very important to the show.”

In other news, Cheney expected to “retire” shortly, heidi klum gets friendly with a chick at a Laker’s Game (check the look of the guy behind them, classic) & can someone please find a video clip of will smith on Indian Idol?

Rainy Monday

Ah yes, back on the Monday Morning tip. Good times this weekend, hit up the Auto Club 500 with Adam, my dad scored us some sweet tickets and we had amazing seats. Started off great, got a free breakfast at the Challet Village, talked to Mark Martin before the race and saw Huell Howser. That was a treat.

Fun weekend, speant some time with mom and dad. I miss them, it’s tough after you move out being the only child when you have a solid relationship with the parents. Hell, I know it’s life and has to happen sometime, I just wish I had more time to dedicate to my family.

Couple of monday links for ya:

And last but def. not least, I miss you Don Knotts. You made childhood fun and wonderful. Don’t get everyone in Heaven too rilled up.

Weekend Update

Aside from the dissapointment of missing the Jonathan Peters Marathon tonight (9pm - 9am), sofar the weekend is looking bright. Heading to the JiffyLube to get my car runnin pretty, one of the things I hate about not having a garage is I can never work on my car anymore, and then to Mom and Dads. Haven’t seen the folks in a while, all these weekends have been crazy man. What ever happend to that term “Relaxing Weekend”. Dude, working a 9-6 M-F it won’t happen anymore. *shrug*

Last night I bit the bullet and did something that’s been on my list for a looooong time now, I spent about about 4 hours re-organigzing all my Bloglines Links and subscriptions. I still have a shitload to add: lots of people from my flickr contacts, a few more friends sites, some geek blogs and quite a few more links to designers I love getting inspiration from, those are queued up for llater this week. If anyone cares, I’ll continue to have the OPML feed available. Or if you’re lazy just be a voyer.

I’ll be back with more later. I’m off to enjoy my Saturday.

Patent For AJAX

U.S. Grants Patent For AJAX - Aviran’s Place

The patent–issued on Valentine’s Day–covers all rich-media technology implementations, including Flash, Flex, Java, Ajax, and XAML, when the rich-media application is accessed on any device over the Internet, according to the patent holders.

A patent has been granted to a relatively unknown California Web-design firm for an invention its creator says covers the design and creation of most rich-media applications used over the Internet. The patent holder, Balthaser Online Inc., says it could license nearly any rich-media Internet application across a broad range of devices and networks.

Potentially tens of thousands of businesses–not only software makers employing its business processes but companies offering rich-media on their Websites–could be subject to licensing fees when they use rich-media technology over the Internet.

The patent–issued on Valentine’s Day–covers all rich-media technology implementations, including Flash, Flex, Java, Ajax, and XAML, when the rich-media application is accessed on any device over the Internet, including desktops, mobile devices, set-top boxes, and video game consoles, says inventor Neil Balthaser, CEO of Balthaser Online, which he owns with his father Ken. “You can consider it a pioneering or umbrella patent. The broader claim is one that basically says that if you got a rich Internet application, it is covered by this patent.”

Interesting read on this, but I doubt it’ll ever take off. Ohh that reminds me, I need to write a check to Compuserve for $0.28 for that gif file I used yesterday.
