Google Maps Saves the Day
Was browsing articles and found this one about How Google Maps got this guy out of a traffic ticket in NY.. pretty sweet if you ask me.
The officer who issued the ticket told the judge that this guy was driving down a one way street when he supposedly ran a red light. Edwin, the guy with the ticket told the judge this wasn’t correct — it was a two-way street — and pulled out his laptop, found a faint but usable WiFi connection, and loaded the Google Map page of the intersection where the alleged violation occurred. “The judge said that due to lack of memory of the officer she will have to dismiss the violation.” (Of course, Edwin will now probably be locked away for stealing precious Internet resources by using the unsecured WiFi connection.)
Also, anything look strange about this Sand Dune formation in South America?

MySpace Has a New Sugardaddy
News Corp. on Monday said it has agreed to acquire Intermix Media Inc., which owns more than 30 e-commerce and media websites, for $580 million in cash, tripling News Corp.’s reach among U.S. Internet users and making it a player in the online social-networking market.
In a separate deal, Intermix announced on Monday that it has acquired the 47 percent of social networking site MySpace.com that it didn’t already own.
In the News Corp. agreement, the Los Angeles based media giant would pay $12 per common share of Intermix stock, or about $580 million. The transaction is expected to close in the fourth quarter, pending approval of Intermix stockholders.
MySpace.com and Intermix’s other sites would become a part of the acquiring company’s newly formed Fox Interactive Media unit, led by Ross Levinsohn. Intermix chief executive Richard Rosenblatt and MySpace chief executive Chris DeWolfe would continue in their roles under Levinsohn.
“Intermix’s brands, such as MySpace.com, are some of the web’s hottest properties and resonate with the same audiences that are most attracted to Fox’s news, sports and entertainment offerings,” Rupert Murdoch, chairman and chief executive of News Corp., said in a statement. “We see a great opportunity to combine the popularity of Intermix’s sites, particularly MySpace, with our existing online assets to provide a richer experience for today’s Internet users.”
Wow, can honestly say I didn’t see this coming, but all i hope is they finally put some regulations on this spam portal - also know as myspace. It’s turning into such a craze.. I remember way back when I was talking to the guys and we asked “you get her number?”, later that progressed to “you get her email?”.. followed by the ever so popular “you get her screen name?” and now.. the lovley “is she on myspace?”.
I’m not hating on my friends that have it. Hell I have an account too but I think i’ve logged in twice. Deep down there’s nothing wrong with it, just like friendster and all the others, but when it’s so inundated with adspace, pointless pages and things like “you have 632,932 friends in your extended network”, you have to admit, no one really cares.
One thing I did like was how they integrated RSS feeds into the profile and you could create your own blog, but that always bring back the point where if you give someone too much power over their “domain” they abuse the hell out of it. I know i’m just talking like a stingy & web-critical bitch here, but when you can’t read the text on the page because theres a picture of you and your best friends drunk as the background with white text.. you need to agree that there’s nothing productive about that at all.
Then you have the case of me where I reverted back to the default template for my blog, yea, i know it’s lame but that’s jsut because I’m too lazy.. at least this site validates. If I could get my damned internet to work at my apartment maybe i’d do something about it already! .. im not bitter.
The No-Internet Blues
So, it’s now been over 2 weeks, still no internet at home. Charter can kiss my right nut at this point. Funny how i never got the memo they were doing software upgrades that may affect my service. Ohh, thats right, maybe because they didn’t bother telling anyone that their service could fail at any moment.. bastards.
Anyhow I’m now a proud subscriber in hiatus of Verizon DSL. Looking forward to some internet we can count on finally, but at this point i’d be happy if it worked long enough to download a few podcasts and check my news in the morning.
Oh, and im done with my new site but pretty hard to integrate with no internet, so expect the redesign soon and my phot site with the flickr API integration will be soon as well. I decided I’m aiming for simple and straight forward with that site, no frills, just some serious shotty.
Bomber Identities Released
So this is just pretty disturbing. Police have released a CCTV image of the four London bombers as they set out from Luton on their bombing mission.
Really makes me sick to my stomache to see things like this, kind of like all the post releases from the 9/11 bombings, the 7/7 hurt just as much. Unlike me being able to visit the World Trade Center before it’s fall, I did get a chance to visit the wonderful country of England and ride the tube, in fact, through one of the same areas that was hit. Sad to say that peace will never come at the price of love, and hardly understanding of one another. Moreover, my guess is it will only come from compromise since every day it seems more and more clear that the world’s melting pot will never see eye-to-eye. Rather, it’s more eye for an eye.
Vivaaaaa Las Vegas
What a damn fun trip at that too. Have to say I had a blast and so did everyone that went. Happy Birthday to Leesha is in order! 21 girl… it’s all downhill from here. Haha.
Nah but seriously, it was Hot as hell, record highs while we were there in fact. Had good luck on the tables, Val taught me how to play craps, that’s one fun game i have to say, tough learning curve tho, thats for sure. Paris was beautiful, the rooms were very nice, clean and rose marble everywhere. Studio 54 was off the chain, good music, Jose2Hype had a great set with a bongo accompaniment, got back around 5am, that’s vegas for you.
