Sweedish Bridge, ya?

Too Freaking Cool

The bridge (or should it be called tunnel) goes under water to allow movement of ships. In order for ships to pass, this bridge is half under the water. You drive down in the water and then come out on the other side. Truly a marvelous piece of engineering! This bridge is between Sweden and Denmark . Picture taken from the side of Sweden

Saint John Paul II ?

Pope Benedict XVI opens the process for the sainthood of Pope John Paul II - billingsgazette.com

ROME - Pope Benedict XVI said Friday he had begun the process for the possible sainthood of Pope John Paul II, overriding the usual five-year waiting period following the death of a candidate before beatification procedures can begin.

The pope made the announcement in Latin during a meeting with the Roman clergy at the Basilica of St. John Lateran.

The announcement opens the way for the possible beatification and canonization of John Paul, pending an investigation into the late pope’s life and approval of miracles attributed to him. One miracle is required for John Paul to be beatified, a second one for him to be declared a saint.

This was pretty nice to wake up to this morning and see as one of the first news items I normally inundate myself with post my cup’o'joe. Normally I wake up to “car bombing in Uzbekistan”, “Anti-US protests.. 7 dead” and all the other lovley crap thats happening in the world. Its a nice change for a Friday.

One thing that I didn’t know was the dealeo’ is as follows:

  • 1 Miracle == Beautification
  • 2 Miracles == Sainthood

I guess it’s time to check the record books and see if Pope JP2 made quota :)

Flickr ups the ante

Flickr: News

Remember the 5MB limit for photo uploads? That was the olden days. Now pro account users can luxuriate in their fancy 10MB upload limit (while, perhaps, cursing their ISP for the slow upload connection - in this age of the two web, why the asynchronousness, o ISPs?)

Yeaaa boyyy. Flickr is just getting hotter and hotter. I’m glad i bought the pro account last month too so I was eligible for the free year they shot me and all the goodies. Ohh, and something new I plan on playing with this weekend, anyone checked out geobloggers yet? hot idea and hella cool to do some virtual sightseeing.

Life Before the Computer

Life Before the Computer

  • Memory was something you lost with age
  • An application was for employment
  • A program was a TV show
  • A cursor used profanity
  • A keyboard was a piano
  • A web was a spider’s home
  • A virus was the flu
  • A CD was a bank account
  • A hard drive was a long trip on the road
  • A mouse pad was where a mouse lived
  • And if you had a 3-1/2 inch floppy ..

     … you just hoped nobody ever found out
