Interesting facts on Google
The prime reason the Google home page is so bare is due to the fact that the founders didn’t know HTML
Heh, that was a favorite, the rest is a good read.
An Evening With Marissa Mayer
Ever have one of those days..
Where you can’t think of a damned title for your blog post? haha
So today was mantinance on my file server day. Spent most of the morning installing and setting up my new 200GB RAID system for my photos to take a little load off my data drives. I can’t believe I have over 45,000 pictures in my archives over the years. Everything from scanned old slides to shoots and my old studio work. wow.. insane
Had a qucik shoot with mah girl Brittany the other night and here’s one of my favs. I’m still working on my photo site, can’t seem to be happy with a design and the way its going to work, but I know its time already to jsut do it. Im hoping I can do it by Feb, thats my goal.

Avalon on Public SDK Release
Just saw that Microsoft just released the public SDK of Avalon this morning, I don’t know anyone who expected this to come out so soon. From what I understand, codename Avalon is a new API framework that will be at the core of Longhorn’s (the new version of XP ETA 2005) new information architecture. What’s awesome about XAML (the new code the framework works on) is that it’s so similar to HTML. This means easy customization and GUI tweaks for all. Finally those of us who like to program and aren’t uber-geekish enough to write everything from scratch on a daily basis may have a fighting chance to keep up
Check it out, I’m going to give it a run tonight and play with it.
There’s a good demo available on Channel 9
iProduct - You Want It

Apple iProduct. You’ll buy it. And you’ll like it.
Do you like Apple products? Do you live for every product announcement, every incremental upgrade, every rumor and fake screenshots? Do you wank and blare and drone and fucking gurgle about Apple products morning, noon, and night? Then get ready for iProduct. You’ll be blown away. No matter what it is.
The power to buy anything — and feel good about it.
Will it be merely an incremental improvement? Will we simply increase the storage capacity of an existing product and increase the price? Or will we remove features and capacity and reduce the price? It doesn’t matter. We’ll still trumpet it as a brand new product, and you’ll buy it. You know you’ll want it. And you know you’ll pay big for it. Steve Jobs could take a dump, put it in an off-white plastic case, add two grey buttons and a small LCD display, and you’d pay $600 for it. Just fucking admit it.
What is it?
We’re not saying yet. But we know that won’t stop you. Post at length about it on every message board you have access to. Come up with fake product photos and post them, too. Start rumors or deny them. Compare it with existing products, even though you don’t know what you’re comparing them to. With Apple products, rampant, fruitless speculation is easy and fun.
When can I get it?
Relax, hipster, we’ll tell you when it’s ready. And you’ll tell everybody else. Whether they care or not. You’ll clog every blog, forum, and message board in the known universe with product photos, testimonials, and praise for Apple. And the complaints and insults you receive are just proof that you’re right.
How much will it cost?
Like you care. As you already know, it’ll be twice as expensive as other companies’ products with comparable features. But that doesn’t matter, does it? No matter how much it costs, you’ll feel special because you’ve bought an Apple product. If you forget how special you are, just look at your credit card statement.

Tsunami Relief Stats
The Diplomad posted some great numbers today about the relief effort for Thiland, check this out:
This comes from State Department press guidance re the USA’s tsunami relief effort, with data accurate as of January 9. It details American contributions over and above the $350 million officially pledged, thus far, by the US Government:
— Americans have responded generously. The Chronicle of Philanthropy estimates $324 million have been donated by American citizens and corporations.
— More than 14,400 U.S. military personnel and $20 billion in military assets are involved in Operation Unified Assistance at a cost of $5 to $6 million a day.
— Almost 6 million pounds of relief supplies and equipment, including water, food and medical supplies (non-medicine), have been delivered to the region.
— 25 ships, 37 cargo aircraft, 8 patrol aircraft and 51 helicopters are involved in the relief effort. U.S. aircraft have flown more than 835 sorties.
— Approximately 150 USAID personnel are on the ground. USAID’s Disaster Assistance Response Teams and the U.S. military continue to conduct needs assessments and provide supplies and essential logistic support.
Really awesome in my eyes. Im happy to say I could be a small part of that, donated here and there when I could. After seeing the pictures and recent video of all the horror and unbelievable damage, its the least you can do to take the few bucks you would have spent on a drink at the club or burger for lunch and donate it to a country in dire need of anything and everything they can get.

Pixel Tools for Flash
There are some really great resources over at 5 & a half. Check out this extension Greg found this morning. There are some awesome other downloads and code resources.
The pixel tools allow you to create pixel perfect shapes that won’t degrade when the low quality setting is selected.
The pixel rectangle tool create a rectangle that snaps to pixels and has a border made of fills.
The pixel line tool creates an aliased line out of fills.
The pixel freehand tool creates pixels using a pencil-like tool. Plays nice with the history palette.
